Check your usage offline Trick

August 2, 2009

With high speed broadband, 10gb is too small a task to finish off…
so one must keep track of their usage …

Here is a nifty little trick that would help you manage your monthly usage.

Basically, the downloads and uploads are logged in file \Reliance Netconnect\userdata\NetInfo.dat
It can be opened in notepad to view the log.

It can also be viewd via a NetInfoUIExPlugin which is disbaled. It can be enabled by changing
Reliance Netconnect\config\PluginsConfig.xml

Uncomment line 57
i.e. Change line from ‘<!–item name=”NetInfoUIExPlugin” clsid=”AC7C3BF8-40C1-4b39-8B67-32F85E6B2E6F”/–>’

to

‘<item name=”NetInfoUIExPlugin” clsid=”AC7C3BF8-40C1-4b39-8B67-32F85E6B2E6F”/>’
Quit application and restart. The application will have a new tab now that will show all records.

RELIANCE NETCONNECT BROADBAND+ – – REVIEW – –

I finally bought the new Reliance Netconnect Broadband + USB modem after checking out all the available modems and services their network operator provides.
I chose Reliace Netconnect Broadband+ because of their free national roaming without any charge and their well spread network throughout India (including my college campus, that’s important ).
The product claims to give speeds of upto 3.1 Mbps across 35 major indian cities and speed of 144kbps ( on reliance 1x CDMA network ) in 4.5 lac villages.

Huawei EC 1260 Huawei EC 1260
cost : 3500

This is the model that i got and the latest modem that is on offer by Reliance Netconnect and is also the smallest of the lot.
The other modems are :

Huawei EC 168C ZTE AC871

Huawei EC 168C                 ZTE AC 871
Cost : 3500                        Cost : 3500

As i mentioned above, all the models costs Rs 3500 and come with a micro SD slot with micro SD card which contains the drivers and necessary software for dialing up.

Note: This device is not a total plug and play device as it does’nt start up automaticaaly when plugged up into the USB port. We will have to dial in manually using the dialler software provided.

Updated Details of the tariff plans available are on :

Speed diagnostics :

The speed largely depends on the time of the day you are using the modem.
The speed is fairly slower in daytime from 300kbps to 1mbps and goes upti 2 to 2.5mbps at night.
I couldnt reach the maximum they claim..ie-3.1Mbps.
But even with speed i was getting was impressive and i was not expecting it.

As far the 1x network is concerned,I am here in MP and getting speed of about 100 to 150kbps(10kbps-17kbps practical speed) with a high ping.

Dialing :

Once you have plugged the device and installed the bundled software, you have to do a one time activation on *227 in the activation menu.
These are the initial setting for your first time dialup :

Number : #777
Username :  your MDN or phone number
password : your MDN or phone number
Create a profile with the following settings and cick on connect.

WORST THING ABOUT IT WAS NO UNLIMITED PLAN …..
BEST THING WAS NATIONWIDE FREE ROAMING, GUD CONNECTIVITY AND FAIRLY GUD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

IF you travel a lot and and are not a heavy downloader …..
this one is surely for you !!
